Articles::Week 5 Useful Waiver Pickups (October 3, 2006)
Here are some players that may still be available on the waiver wire that you can pickup and use to solidify your team.
1. Mark Brunell, QB, Washington Redskins
In weeks 1 and 2, it looked like Brunell was washed up and useless as a fantasy football option. Then, Clinton Portis returned in week 3 and Brunell really seemed to thrive. In the last 2 weeks, Brunell has become a useful fantasy option again and if he is available you should definitely consider grabbing him.2. Leon Washington, RB, New York Jets
He didn't have amazing stats against the Colts in week 4 but he is moving to the forefront of the Jets running back situation. Houston and Barlow are both running into injury issues and this will lead to more carries for Washington in the future making him a possible starter for you if you have bye week issues.3. Reggie Williams, WR, Jacksonville
He is surprising still available in a number of leagues. He has been putting up great stats recently and it looks like he is becoming Leftwich's favorite target. Through 3 games he has 21 catches for 243 yards and these numbers should keep increasing as the season goes on.4. Eric Johnson, TE, San Francisco 49ers
Rookie Tight End Vernon Davis broke a bone in his leg in Sunday's game against the Eagles and is expected to miss at least 4 weeks of action with the injury. After Davis left the game, Johnson stepped in and had a team high 7 catches for 89 yards and a touchdown. If you can grab him, Johnson is definitely worth adding in all leagues.5. Buffalo Bills, DST
Depending on the size of your league, the Bills may still be available on the waiver wire. They have played better than most projected at the beginning of the year and have kept their opponents from scoring too many points while generating a decent amount of sacks and turnovers. They are a great option if you need a defense to step in to solve a bye week issue or if you need to adjust your defense for matchup issues since they have a weak schedule coming up.
