Articles::Week 3 Useful Waiver Pickups (September 19, 2006)
Here are a few players that are probably still available on the waiver wire that you can pickup and use this week if you've already run into injury issues.
1. Rex Grossman, QB, Chicago Bears
Over the last 2 weeks, Grossman has thrown for over 550 yards and 5 touchdowns. Coming into the year, many people felt that he would never amount to a decent fantasy player but he's been proving everyone wrong. He may have been picked up after his great performance in Week 1 but if he's still available, take a chance on him and see if he can keep up this pace the rest of the year.2. DeAngelo Williams, RB, Carolina Panther
Right now, Foster is still listed as the starter in Carolina but that may be about to change very soon. Over the last 2 weeks, Williams has put up the better stats and already being 0 - 2, the Panthers may look to Williams to provide the spark they need to get back into contention. He is an even better pickup if you are playing in a keeper league since he is a rookie.3. Marques Colston, WR, New Orleans Saints
Over the first 2 weeks of the season, Colston has been Brees' number 1 target. With all of the attention given to Reggie Bush, Colston may be the rookie on the Saints that has the largest impact this year. In addition to his great stats, in some leagues he is also eligible at Tight End and this versatility makes him much more useful.4. Desmond Clark, TE, Chicago Bears
Although Clark isn't a household name like Shockey or Heap, he is an effective option to use when your starting tight end is on a bye week. He already has 162 yards receiving and a touchdown this year. Add him if you're going to need some tight end help in the coming weeks.5. John Carney, K, New Orleans Saints
Carney is off to quite a start this season as well. He is 6 for 6 on field goal attempts and 5 for 5 on extra point tries. The offense of New Orleans has been clicking and this has helped out Carney's stats. Look for New Orleans to continue to score a decent amount of points and for Carney to be a reliable kicker that could step in for you every week if needed.
