Articles::Week 2 Useful Waiver Pickups (September 14, 2006)

Here are a few players that are probably still available on the waiver wire that you can pickup and use this week if you've already run into injury issues.

1. Philip Rivers, QB, San Diego Chargers
On Monday night, Rivers showed that he can be effective and play mistake free football. He probably won't be throwing 35 passes per game but he will probably throw 15 - 20 similar to how Ben Roethlisberger was used during his rookie year. Rivers has the advantage of being able to throw to Antonio Gates in the redzone and that should help his touchdown numbers greatly this year. He has a great matchup against Tennessee and could be a decent start.

2. Samkon Gado, RB, Houston Texans
Samkon is back! Caoch Sherman who is now in Houston likes the way that Gado runs and was one of the large reasons the Texans traded for him. He should be getting a chance to start soon and if he is available in your league and you have a free roster spot, pick him up in hopes that he recaptures some of last year's magic.

3. Michael Jenkins, WR, Atlanta Falcons
When passing the ball, Michael Vick looked at Jenkins often. He had a respectable three catches for 77 yards and a touchdown in Week 1. Jenkins is a great player but the only concern is Michael Vick actually throwing him the ball. If you need to add an extra receiver though, he may still be available in your league and be able to step in and start for you this week.

4. Desmond Clark, TE, Chicago Bears
Although Clark isn't a household name like Shockey or Heap, he is an effective option to use when your starting tight end is on a bye week. He didn't score in Week 1 but he did prove to be a reliable target catching five passes for 77 yards. With the quarterback questions in Chicago, he should put up decent numbers throughout the year since the tight end is usually a safe option for a struggling quarterback. Add him if you're going to need some tight end help in the coming weeks.

5. Robbie Gould, K, Chicago Bears
Gould was probably not taken in many drafts and might still be available on the waiver wire for your league. Gould had four field goals, the longest being 40 yards, and two extra points in Week 1. With the known issues for the Chicago offense, we might see a few weeks like this out out Gould throughout the season.
